VIVA! is committed to offering a safe and welcoming environment to all audiences. The headquarter’s main entrance has a stone staircase, but a wheelchair-accessible entrance is available at the back of the building. Detailed directions can be provided upon request. All bathrooms are gender neutral, including an accessible washroom in the main space. The headquarters also includes a quiet area. Masks are encouraged for anyone with symptoms of illness and those who wish to wear one or.
VIVA! supports artistic risk-taking and self-determined practices. As such, the performances we present can be unpredictable, and may include triggering subject matter, nudity, self-harm, loud sounds, strong odors, and other intense sensory experiences. Audience members are free to come and go as they please during the performances. This year, trained staff will be on site in the evenings to offer support if a performance brings up difficult feelings, or if someone’s behaviour or words make you uncomfortable. Non-consensual physical and verbal violence is however not tolerated.
VIVA! recognizes that intersecting systems of oppression, colonization, and systemic marginalization operate across artistic communities, and we are committed to proactively working to provide an increasingly equitable and inclusive environment that honors the full diversity of our artists, members and extended community. We are committed to being receptive and continually learning.
To make our programming more accessible and to encourage artist-parents as well as those with childcare responsibilities, VIVA! Art Action is offering free on-site childcare for children aged 5 to 12. Childcare services will be available every evening from 6:30 to 10:30 pm. Pre-registration is required via this form.
