Helena Martin Franco (QC)
Helena Martin Franco was born in Cartagena, Colombia. Since 1998, she has lived and worked in Montreal. She received a Master in Visual and Media Arts from l’Université du Québec à Montréal and has taught art courses in local and Columbian universities. She has also been actively involved in non-profit organisations dedicated to community education and the dissemination of contemporary art. She is a member of the collective La Redhada, a network of Carribean Columbian women artists, and of L’Araignée, a Quebecois collective of contemporary art project curators.
Her multidisciplinary practice explores the intersections and dialogue between photography, video, performance, installation and cyberspace. Her most recent works question the transformations of identity that is experienced in spaces of immigration. Her work has been presented in Spain, New Zealand, Columbia, the United States, and in Québec Artist-run centres.
